Church Serve Canada Announces New Executive Director
Church Serve Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of their new Executive Director. Patricia Goertzen of Lake Country, BC began her role February 2, 2009. Patricia may be known to many in the Okanagan, as she and husband Larry were owners of Okanagan Scriptural Supplies for 10 years. Her experience in volunteer coordination, leadership, prayer ministry and financial administration will serve her well in this new role.
The Church Serve, Extending Hands of Service to Those in Need ministry was established in 2002, blending with Kelowna/Westbank NeighbourLink in 2006. What began as a collaborative effort between the health authority and Kelowna churches has grown to a Christian not-for-profit society with offices in Kelowna and Vernon. A volunteer pool of over 150 from more than 25 churches throughout the valley interacts with an average of 100 households per month. Energetic Hands Volunteers focus on the under 65-year-old population, providing practical help with cleaning, laundry and food prep for those with chronic health concerns or difficulties. Volunteer Drivers assist local food banks delivering hampers for young moms or those of any age with limited access to food banks.Patricia takes over from founder Cherie Kelly who says, "Our new Director has the servant heart and passion for others we were looking for. Her vision and desire to see churches offering this 'Jesus with skin on' opportunity to their congregations will energize Church Serve at a time when the number of active volunteers cannot meet the demand for service. Patricia's goal is to see churches and ministries partnering with one another to transform communities." One recently widowed recipient of help states, "I wouldn't be alive today if it weren't for my two volunteers. When I was feeling low and ready to end it all, our two girls (teenage volunteers) brought me a cat. Someone had to get up and feed that darn cat! I am so grateful for all that the girls did for my wife and I." To serve, donate or become a partnering church or ministry, contact Church Serve at www.churchservecanada.org or email . Every community and congregation can benefit from Church Serve. Contact us if you would like to promote Church Serve within your congregation. We have skits, multi-media and guest speaker presentations available. |
